How AMI Training Transformed Eliza's Business

When Eliza first saw the African Management Institute (AMI) training advertised on Instagram, she was simply looking for an opportunity to learn more about running her business. What she found was a program that would transform the way she managed and grew her company.

Eliza is the founder of PODAS Collections, a garment production business specializing in men’s and women’s wear. Like many entrepreneurs, she began with passion and creativity but quickly realized that growing a business required more than good products. It required strong leadership, systems, and financial discipline.

Through the AMI training, Eliza took courses in leadership, people management, bookkeeping, and business positioning skills that immediately began to reshape how she approached her business.

One of the first changes came in how she hired and managed her team. “To be honest, my hiring was very poor. I hired people who didn’t qualify for the job, and it became very difficult.” The training helped her understand that hiring is not simply about filling positions, but about building a team that can strengthen the business. “I learned that you don’t just hire because you need people. You hire people who can help build the business.”

Another major shift came in how she managed her finances. Before the training, Eliza did not consistently track stock or record business transactions. “When I went through the training, I realized that for a business to grow, you have to keep track of everything.”

Using the AMI Business App, she began documenting purchases, expenses, and inventory, giving her a clearer view of how the business was performing. The results were dramatic. Before the training, Product Collections generated about GHS 68,000 in annual revenue. Within a year of applying what she learned, the business recorded over GHS 600,000 in sales.

“I can say that confidently because now I keep every single record.”

The leadership training also helped Eliza grow more confident in managing her team. Instead of making suggestions, she learned to give clear direction and lead with authority. “I realized that as the leader, I have to instruct. If I say ‘you can do this,’ the person has a choice. But if I say ‘do this,’ the work gets done.”

Today, Products Collections employs 12 people, up from eight before the training, and demand for the business’s garments continues to grow.
