At just 20 years old, Eunice Blevi from Ave Dakpa in Ghana’s Akatsi North District is already transforming how her community farms.
Balancing part-time teaching with operating her own small farm, Eunice has long carried dreams of becoming a nurse. But when she joined the FIRST+II program as a Farmer Support Agent with Opportunity International, her role in her community took on a new meaning.
Through the program’s Good Agricultural Practices training, Eunice learned how simple yet precise changes in farming techniques can significantly improve yields. She learned about climate-smart soil management, organic mulching, and the correct use of fertilizers.
“In my community, we just apply fertilizer without knowing how,” Eunice explained. “Now, I can teach my neighbors the right way.”
Equipped with both technical know-how and digital advisory tools, Eunice is now more than a farmer. She has become a credible advisor to her peers, guiding other smallholders in adopting practices that protect the soil, boost productivity, and enhance food security.
For Eunice, the training has been more than a personal opportunity. It has unlocked her potential as a leader. Her journey shows how investing in youth and women not only changes lives but also strengthens entire farming communities.
